With so many diets to choose from, it can be hard to work out which one is best for you.
However, many of these diets are not based on science and are purely a marketing fad to get people talking. The ketogenic diet is not a fad and versions of it have been followed for quite some time now with the medical community slowly acknowledging some of its benefits (anyone else binge watch Dr Now on my 600-Ib life?); with growing scientific evidence of helping reverse type II diabetes, this diet is a great choice for anyone that is serious about losing weight and getting healthy. We hope that this article helps uncover some of the reasons why we've managed to stick to keto diet as well as why you should give the keto diet a try.
Here at No Guilt Bakes, we are keen followers of the keto lifestyle and can boast genuine success on the plan. We are proud to create products that help keto followers maintain their diet and maximise their weight loss. As you might already know Maya lost 4 stone on Keto within a year and has managed to keep it off and Taeya lost 17 kg and has managed to keep it off as well.
How Does the Keto Diet Work?
If you are considering giving the keto diet a go, then it is important to understand the science behind it. Keto works by making your body use a different type of fuel from the carbohydrates it is used to. Instead, your body is pushed into using ketone bodies which are made by the liver using stored fat.
The reason this is a better way of losing weight is that it makes your body burn fat rather than muscle. To reach ketosis (the state in which you are burning fat), you need to reduce your carbohydrate intake significantly and increase the amount of fat you are eating.
The amount of time it will take for your body to enter a state of ketosis will vary from person to person with some experiencing it within three days, and others taking up to ten days. Ketosis happens when you have been following the plan properly. When in ketosis, you can then expect to be rewarded with fat-burning that results in genuine weight loss.
What Do You Eat On the Keto Diet?
Modern diets all utilise carbohydrates too much, and you may be concerned that you will not be able to enjoy a diet that is varied and delicious if you follow a keto plan. The good news is that a diet that is restricted in carbs does not need to be boring, bland or unpleasant.
The one simple rule of keto is that you need to eat fat during every meal because you will be aiming to fill your diet with around 75% fat, 20% protein and 5% carbs. You can get this fat from a wide range of sources including dairy, nuts and oils, and it is a good idea to vary the fats you eat so that you get a balanced intake.
Why Is Keto So Easy To Follow?
The reason why we love keto so much is that it is seriously filling, so it is easy to stick to. The reason it is so filling is that eating fat satisfies your appetite and keeps you fuller for longer. As long as you remember to eat fat at every meal, you will find that you do not have the urge to snack as badly as usual and can focus on getting to and staying in ketosis.
Keto is also seriously easy to stick to because there is no complex model of tracking or recording, meaning that you are more likely to follow it because it does not feel as restrictive or time-consuming.
What About Fruit and Vegetables?
Lots of people say that fruit and vegetables are off-limits on keto due to their high carb content. This is not the case, but you do need to be careful which types you eat and how much of them you have. For example, berries are typically the best choice, and you can eat them in small portions as part of your diet so that you benefit from all the nutrients without being kicked out of ketosis.
With vegetables, there is a wide range you can choose from such as leafy greens, brassicas, onions, peppers, squash, mushrooms, and cucumber. Again, these vegetables should form part of your meals rather than being the entire meal to ensure that you get enough fat and remain in ketosis.
What About Treats?
If you love a cake or sweet treat, then you do not need to worry. These treats are possible on a keto diet and what is even better is that keto versions are generally guilt-free!
